What are Dental Veneers

Before we get started, it is definitely essential to first be clear of what Dental veneers are. For many people, veneers are a one-stop solution to different cosmetic issues they face with their teeth on the daily.

Dental veneers are thin, tooth-coloured shells that are bonded to the front surface of teeth to enhance the aesthetics of your teeth. They can be used to effectively mend many problems people struggle with their teeth, including chipped, discoloured or the size of their teeth, aiming to create a more aesthetically-pleasing symmetrical smile.

Veneers typically last about 20 to 30 years, depending on different individuals, some having no need to replace them in the future at all.

What are the different types of Dental Veneers

We suppose many of you here are reading up about dental veneers to know which is the most suited for you. In order to do that, we will now dive into the two main dental veneers available in Singapore.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain has long been used in restorative and cosmetic dentistry because of its unmatched ability to resemble the look of natural teeth. Porcelain veneers are crafted specifically for your teeth, hand-crafted to give you the natural look and smile you are looking for. Additionally, they are also strong enough to last for a long duration and are resilient to staining. Although not typically as strong as normal teeth, it is still extremely durable taking into account the chewing of tough solid food. However, they are much more expensive and require a longer time to be placed.

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers are typically made of plastic of resin and can be applied to your teeth in a single appointment, opposed to porcelain veneers that usually require a minimum of 2 appointments. While they are not as resistant to discolouration compared to porcelain veneers, they are cheaper and are suitable for those who want a quick and affordable choice.

The most suitable type of Singapore veneers available for you depends on your tastes and preferences and depends on what your dentist believes is most suitable to be implemented on your set of teeth. This also takes into account your lifestyle and different eating habits, as well as where the veneer is going to be implemented. It is best to check in with your dentist before making a decision for yourself!

Do Dental Veneers hurt?

If pain is a factor you are considering before getting your dental veneers, fret not! While the process may cause some discomfort and pain, many dentists offer different types of numbing for the procedures.

This should prevent you from feeling any pain at all. However, the amount of soreness you experience after the procedure depends on how many veneers have been implemented. The more the dental veneers implemented, it is more likely for you to experience some type of soreness in your jaw after the procedure.

However, not to worry, for the soreness is typical and likely to go away after a few days.

How will Veneers affect me? Do they ruin my real teeth?

If you are worried that veneers will affect your natural teeth, we are here to help. Dental Veneers do not damage your natural teeth by any means.

Instead, they form a protective layer, preventing your natural teeth from any further decaying or damages. Fragile teeth without veneers can be damaged easily. With veneers acting as a protective layer, the teeth will then have greater strength to withstand pressures of biting or chewing etc.
